The difference is the size of the material they can handle.

the Expression is a bigger & better machine and it can use the vinyl cutter and it can make a bigger stencil ( or cutout). to find out more about here there website:

The Cricut Expression machine is much larger than the Cricut Create or the Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter. Cricut Expression is the largest die cut machine in the Cricut family of paper cutters. It uses the same cartridges, blade housings, and blades, as the portable cutters, but it's meant to stay on a worktable.

Cricut personal cutter is smaller and more portable, ideal for greeting cards, scrapbooks, and other paper crafts, the machine uses a cartridge based system for cutting thousands of beautiful letters, shapes, or phrases in a variety of sizes and styles with just the touch of a button. Simply attach the material to be cut to the included self-adhesive cutting mat, load it into the machine, insert the cartridge, make a cutting selection, and press cut.

the site mentioned had better prices than you quoted, you may want to check them out. happy crafting!

Sure it will. you can use cricut vinyl which comes in rolls or tape, cut your designs and apply them to anything.

another option for decorative objects would be cut paper or card stock and decoupage them on to any surface.

the cricut machine is used for home decor projects all the time.

you can also cut shrink plastic which is used for jewelry making with your new cricut machine.
vellum, fabric and thin metal foils can also be cut with the cricut machine. hope that helps.

Well, there's always YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Cricut

Think I remember seeing in the Michaels ad this morning too something about a demonstration of the Cricut? So you could call to check that out too.

Depends on your needs. There is:
1-The original: Cricut Personal Cutter
2- The Cricut Expression
3- The Cricut Create
4- The Cricut Cake

I love my Expression. #1 and #3 are more portable because they are smaller. #1 cuts from 15" to 5.5" in height and 11.5" long. with .5" increments. #3 cuts from .25" to 5.5" in height and 11.5" long bu with .25" increments. #2 cuts from .25" to 11.5 in height and .25 to 23.5" in length. #4 does the same as #2 they are the same size but #2 is for paper and #4 is for food. Yes if you keep losing your cookie cutters or if you want to cake decorate but you can't free hand it this is a great machine for you! Now your children don't have to have plain cheese quesadillas now they can have mickey mouse shaped ones! *turns off the commercial*

The machines depend on your size project, if it's for personal or professional use. If you need just a few of something or mass production. The Expressoion is great it's bigger and has more features. The Creat ers. All machines use all cartridges. So you can use the Cake cartridges with Personal machine. I would not suggest getting the Expression and using it for food. The Cricut Cake is food safe and the inside food grade stainless steel. HTH

I'm not sure... when I look at the Cricut Expression sites, they talk about using the cricut for more than just scrapbooking, but I couldn't find anything on knitting or crochet. Maybe you could actually use yarn on your scrapbook page to "tie" photos together. You could also have a very flattened piece of knitted background for a photo, which would be really cute.

I am not a professional cake artist but I can frost a cake lol. Before the cricut cake came out I've seen on those cake shows professionals use the cricut expression. They still did some by hand but they also used the cricut so I would think yes for professional use. Besides wouldn't using it give you more time to make the cake recipes taste outstanding? After all what's the point of a pretty cake if it doesn't taste good. I'd rather pay more for a good tasting cake than a pretty piece of cardboard.

edit to add:

I wouldn't use it primarily but on some things like borders and letters

I highly doubt it. It can cut thin cotton. But felt is going to be too thick.

I use my machines (yes that was plural) on an almost daily basis. I have more than one because I started with the little one (finally decided to recently sell it) but then they came out with the big one but then after that they came out with a pink big one and my hubby knows pink is my fav color and he though that i could have one for home and one for travel. Anyway I have not had a problem with any of them and the newest one is almost a year old and the first one I got when cricut first came out and it's still going strong. I've never had to call customer service for any of them. I did have an issue with my Gypsy but Provo Craft was awesome and replaced it. They even sent it to me overnight ups. I paid for no shipping whatsoever. I don't like that there are soo many cartridges but I would suggest a cricut over any of the other electronic die cut machines. There are no laptops or computers to hook to. Yes there are a lot of carts but you can put them all on a Gypsy and never have to carry those again.
